Back when cars had chrome bumpers we could jumpstart one with only one jumper cable.

towing without brakes would be very dangerous . The brakes could be done with a electric over hyd unit like a carlyle HBA 12 unit plumed into the cars brakes . The car would need a inertia senseing brake controler like a P3 . This would give the towed car porportional braking , and make it work . Terry

928's are rated to tow 3500lbs with trailer brakes....which is nearly impossible towing another 928 with a tow bar....so its within the weight rating, but doesn't have brakes? Personally I think it would be okay if it was a short distance

They just need someone to sit in the last car to brake quickly when he spots brake lights ahead.

Hey Simon(?) -

I left you PMs here & on my: "Anyone towing with a 928?" topic on Pelican that I'll be in Tulsa next week, & would like to get together to see your factory 928 towing set-up. My contact is at your PMs.

Cheers!
Tom

I tow things with my car , both have hitches the 81 has the heavy one , and have towed a 18 foot boat c/w surge brakes on the trailer . About 3000 # no problem . I made the hitch myself . The picture is my GT with a very light hitch and a track trailer

Years back when I was building Jags I had a Datsun (Nissan now) PU and a full car trailer. Nothing to put a XKE on the trailer, an XKE engine in the bed and cover it with a hood and other parts and head From LA to Mexico. Up and down old dirt roads absolutely no problem. 60 MPH on the freeway. The trailer had a surge brake and the dock bumper was welded to the frame of the truck. The tow places will not let you do that today.

More recently I have used a 928 to tow other 928s up my drive. it is like not having a load at all. Here in California it is still legal to push a car as long as there are two drivers. Put a tire on the front of your car ease up to the other car and off you go. Used to push cars all over San Diego with the Datsun.

Great picture - thanks for posting.
