The car and a bunch of parts were picked up on the west coast, near San Francisco. The parts were packed into that rear car, and it was towed like that all the way across the country back to the upper east coast. No, it wasn't me.

etrailer has just added a tow setup. When I asked about this some time ago they didn't.

Just because its doable doesn't mean its the right thing to do. Any motor vehicle enforcement team doing its job would shoot that thing down for towing outside rated limits.

ROW S4 is rated to tow 1600kg on trailer which has brakes. Base no equipment at all model S weighs 1530kg. Find some trailer which is under 70kg and its legal to to S with S4. Only problem is that such trailers tend to weight 400kg.

3520kg is total weight including car itself, people etc, trailer and its load. 3520 - 1580 - 1600 = 340kg for people. Tech spec book has them all.

Many years ago when cars all had chrome bumpers auto wholesalers often would flat tow from auction to auction, lot to lot......They always had interesting stories about having the rear car pass the front one ! When flat towing an automatic car they would start the engine and let it idle to circulate trans fluid. The stick shift trans is splash oiled so no need for the engine to be running.
