In ads that Porsche put out listed the 928 as an "8 minute" lap of the ring...my guess is a HIGH 8 minute since the tires weren't exactly great back then..... A comparison I use for lap times is take a given cars lap time say the Vette ZR1 which can do 1:35 at Laguna and 7:26 on the ring.... Anderson can do 1:30.8 at laguna and has a slightly better power to weight than the ZR1 on real race slicks....so he probably could do a low 7:00....I'd guess 7:15 on the ring in his racer...remember the ring favors POWER...so nimble cars like the Lotus and Miata have poor times there...compared to other tracks

Cayenne turbo 7.56!

Boy, I would hope a 928 could beat that

That time was for the panamera turbo. The cayenne did it in 8:33. I'm sure newer times have been set for both though.

You got to bear in mind that the 928 only had to last a 3hr race, while the Aston was in for 24hrs, but none-the-less it is a pretty decent result. The lap times were for the Nurburgring Nordschleife + GP Strecke, which gives you a time of around 8:00min for the Nordschleife and 2:30mins for the GP track...

Both panamera turbo and cayenne turbo are TURBO's with much more grunt and the latest in technology for handling including tires. They are both stellar vehicles. Yet it does appear that the ole 928 beat/tied them, according to cheb's math.

Standard road going Porsche 928GT with rear aircon 8min:38sec in 1990
Standard road going Porsche 928CS 8min:30sec in 1988
Race Porsche 928S 8min:06sec in 1984 (slicks and works prepared)
Race Porsche 928S 8min:00sec in 2010 (slicks, Big Reds, privateer)
Race Porsche 928S4 sub 8 mins in 1988 (works car)

The Ring favours grunt and good damping. Anderson's car will be in the high 6s.

I'd agree with this...since a "street" ZR1 does a 7:19.6..but it does come with PSC's.....however a ZR1 is about 5.5 power-weight....vs Andersons @ 4.3 or so.....
