Help!!! Need front seat removal advice
Trying to remove the front seats from my 84'. Got the front allen bolts out with no prob. I can not get the seats far enough forward to gain access to the rear bolts. With the seat all the wat forward I can kind of see the bolt head but still can't get the end of teh wrench on it. Is there some sort of release to allow the seat to move forward more? I can hear it hit a stop of some sort but can't see what it is hitting. Raising the seat does nothing to help. I can't imagine them fighting this at the factory when putting the car together. The WSM offers no good help with this issue. I'm at a stand still until I get these things out. Tried the search for info but didn't come up with anything that would help. I'm ready to break out the C-4!

You need a ball-end allen key set. Something like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=270209953062
With them, removing the seats is really easy. No idea how hard it is without them...
Cheers,
Paul

Have you tried to hove the seat forward manually? There is a tube under the seat that you can fit a screw driver in that made for manual forward and aft movement. I JUST took Garrett's 1980 seats out a few days ago. The seat has to be UP all the way and forward all the way...then you can get on them after the trim pieces are removed. A ball-end allen key is all that will fit. If your trying a socket allen there is not enough room on the back two.

Must be different then. The trim on the 1980 actually covers the access to the bolts. I have not had to remove my 1989 seats...I'll have to go see. Sorry if the advice is not relevant to yours. I would of thought the design would of been the same for all the pre-late seats.

Full height setting, and a 4" long ratchet (or maybe 1/4drive socket arm) with allen driver in it did it for me. That way you can get the allen key in straight, and this provides best grip. You may get a normal allen key short end in with seat as high as it will go.

more than likely you have a different problem here .
What happens is that the upper seat anchor bolts also unscrew and these will after time limit the distance that the seat can move thus the rear bolts cant be easily accessed , if its not a seat bolt jamming the track then it might be a coin.
What you can try is get a helper,
and install the front bolts, then pull the top of the seat back, back while you move the seat forward , this will lean the seat back and pull the bolt up possibly enough to clear the track. .
If this doesnt work then a hammer and sharp chisel should get the side of the rear bolts to turn, use blue locktite on the upper and lower seat track bolts when you get the seats out

Got them out. The trick was to raise the seat as high as it would go while in the forward most position. Thought I had tried that before I posted for help but I guess not. My dad is considering selling his 81' to the CARB and he had replaced the interior just over a year ago. We swapped seats as his are in great shape compared to mine and his are the 8-way adjustment type. The only issue is the color so I will need to do a color change. His are burgendy and mine were a tan color. We also swapped tires as he had put on a set of Michelin Pilot Sports last summer and only put on a couple of hundred miles since then. Thanks for the advice on getting the seat out.
