Default WP/TB Reliability Improvement.

Hi,

Just finish my TB/WP job (first one!) and went with the idea of reliability in mind.

I installed Ken Proken's Porkensioner and Ed Standke's (OBehave) new water pump system.

First, a big thanks to you both to have put some - probably a lot - time in research and development on those two very good products.
You don't only love to drive those cars, you put time and effort to improve them. I realy admire that.
It makes those cars stronger and that is very important to keep them on the road for many more years.

Those two products are better and stonger I think in many ways.

The Porkensioner system is a very simple system compare to the original tensioner and easier to install. Also, no need for any tension tool to set the tension on the belt.
And as it keeps the same constant pressure on the belt, it is a better and more reliable system. The Porsche system is a good one, but I think Ken's system is better.
It is a bit more expensive the first time, but will be cheaper the next ones. A definite +.

And for Ed's improved water pump system, let me tell you that this is one of the best improvement our car can have.
With the propeler locked in place and the belt idler's own giant bearing, it is a stronger water pump for sure.
I would not be worried to keep this pump for at least two timming belt. It looks bullet proof to me!
AND..the workmanship is clearly of a VERY HIGH ORDER.

Only time will tell, but I'm very confident that I made the right choice.

I can only recommend those two new improve parts to anyone not already convince on there workmanship quality.

You guys rock!

Also, many thanks to Roger at 928R'Us for proving all the new parts.
Always a pleasure to deal with you.
And to Dwayne for your very good - as always - procedure. It gives a newbe like me the confidance to do those quite big (for me) jobs.

Again, thank you very mutch to put all that time in this.

Now time to ride and enjoy the great 928.

+1 Just finished with TB/WP and Porkensioner install the other day; couldn't agree more on the thanks to Roger for sourcing the parts and Dwayne's page. Also, I thought Rob Edwards' post on Renlist (PorKensioner installation for Dummies, '90 GT edition) helped fill in the blanks on the Porkensioner.

Wish I knew about the Obehave pump at the time I ordered. I couln't help thinking as I installed the Lasso that it'll just be a matter of time before the load on the bearing will cause it to fail--like the previous pump. Is Roger now selling them--I don't see them on his web site (?)

Yes it is to good not to do it.
I just installed one on my car last night, this is the third one I have done.
I also added the Gates Racing Timing Belt while I'm at it as she is pushing up near 500 hp.

What is the ball park number for the Water pump?
I was not going to change mine out as it only has 10 k miles on it and shows no issues.

Thanks,

Dave

I wonder how many Pk tensioner have been sold?

My next TB change(5 years time)- I hope by that time the new improve pump will be easily available...

Thank you for the very kind words Bertrand! I am glad you like the waterpump modifications and that you like the workmanship.I wouldn't put out anything that I wouldn't put on my own car first, and must be of the same quality as the vehicle or machine it is going on.Anything worth doing is worth over doing. Please keep us updated as you log miles. Thank You, Ed

+ 100

Hats off to all the talented folks who come up with new solutions for our cars.

I think the PorKensioner on my car was the first one Roger and Sean did, way back in 2008 ... and it still runs beautifully. What a pleasure not to have to worry about that funky old oil-filled contraption.
