Default quick question on removing an electric fan

i need to remove the driver's side fan and i'm having a little trouble getting it out. I removed the 3 nuts that hold the fan motor to the shroud, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get the fan out of the shroud. I've removed the 2 nuts on top of the shroud that hold it in place to the radiator, but I can't seem to pull the shroud out unless I remove at least one radiator hose and maybe even the power steering reservoir. Is that really the only way to get the fan out? I'm not looking forward to making a coolant and PS fluid mess and then having to refill and bleed both...just to get the fan out. help please.

You need to remove the clamp from the PS reservoir so it can move freely back out of the way. You need to remove the upper oil line on the radiator and move it out of the way. Put a paper towel under that line to catch drips. The maneuver the left side of the fan shroud up and back to clear the oil fitting on the radiator. Also, you need to pull off the air pump filter hose fitting and pull that hose back, and as you maneuver the shroud up, push the upper radiator and the coolant return lines back over the right side fan motor. With a little bit of fiddling and the right angle, the shroud will come out. Sometimes thay are a b%^$h; other times they slip right out. No need to remove the PS reservoir or the radiator hoses, but it is tight.

I use fingers cut off of neoprene gloves to cap the oil cooler line while your fiddling around. Another one stuffed with paper is good as an extra thumb in the rad to further eliminate mess.

I have been successful in getting the shroud out with out needing to undo any hoses etc. To get the fan out of the shroud you need to lever the blades off IIRC. There may be a circlip holding them on (I can't remember.

There is a write up on replacing the bearing in the fan motor if that is necessary - just search for it.

I think on an 88 Auto you do have to remove at least a top oil cooler hose (either engine or AT) on a 90 with only AT cooler in the rad no oil hose disconnection is neccessary. I think you can wiggle the shroud around the Top rad hose.

Similarly IIRC with the ATF reservoir unclamped an pushed rearward I think you can get the fan out of the shroud by pushing the shroud towards the engine. The fan blades are held on by a circlip, but they are a tight fit on the motor shaft so will be difficult to lever off in a confined space - also bewar there is a drive pin to drive on the motor side of the blades laterally through the motor shaft.
