Packed up the wife and went for a nice 60 mile round trip to one of our favorite mountain lakes today, took this along the way.
Anybody see the Porsche episode of "Ultimate Factories" on the Nat. Geographic channel recently? It was interesting, they showed the assembly of a current 911 at the Stuttgart factory from start to finish. It was easy to imagine a 928 being built there in much the same way, although minus most of the robots I imagine. A couple things surprised me - they cut out all the leather parts with a computer controlled high pressure jet of water, and I figured all the paint would be robot applied, and most coats were, but the final color coat was hand applied. There was one part where a guy hand fit the leather covering on a dashboard and it really looked like it could have been a 928 he was working on. The typical German efficiency was also impressive. Anyway, I'm sure it will be re-run over and over so catch it if you can.
Cheers!
