Default air box center mount screw

This is my first time taking off the airbox. I looked at the WSM and parts manual and they call it a screw. Looking down the top I can't tell what type of head it is. Can someone tell me what I need to get this thing off?

Gee I thought I was an educated guy

I have the two at each end out. The one in the middle front has a long tunnel housing around it. I tried a socket and it gets stuck in the tunnel housing. Do I need a thiw walled socket?

My AFS is mounted to the bottom of my airbox, and when I remove the outboard screws from the airbox mounts, the entire assembly comes out as one.

Mine's an '82, do the older cars have a different mounting design?

Yes. You must remove the bolt from the top rear center of the intake. It is a long bolt that holds the air box housing down in the part that swoops under the spider. There are many many small differences (and big ones too) in the various models of these cars.

I still haven't been able to come up with the right socket that will fit into the tunnel and get to the bolt head. They get stuck in the tunnel as it is very narrow.

What are folks ouit there using to get to the bolt?

Thanks

Jim - not sure what you are doing. The bolt Stan and I are referring to sits on top of the center intake, at the back right by the airbox - Here is a pic of my engine bay - just remove that bolt , plus the two inside the bottom housing of the airbox, and it slides right up and out.

Jim - here is another post answering the question, with a better picture of the bolt. Your intake should be the same as mine. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...r-housing.html

So I am lost. I will take a picture of what I think is the issue tomorrow. With the top of the air filter housing off and the air filter out there are two bolts at each end of the bottom housing. With those loose the housing still seems solidly secured in the middle and it appears that there is a 3rd bolt at the base of a tunnel seen from the inside of the air filter housing. Hope my newbie terminology is not confusing.

Thanks

there should not be any tunnel to remove this bolt please post a picture of what you doing your responses dont make any sense.
In fact you can use a 13mm wrench to undo the locknut,
thats actually what secures the long bolt that goes though the top of the intake and presses the lower portion of the aircleaner onto the air inlet guide

AHH success.

This morning I went out and removed the bolt on top of the intake distributor (as described early in this string but not understood) and lifted the lower air filter housing right off!

Thanks all for you patience with me. Using the parts manual I was convinved the bolt holding it on was in that tunnel. Fortunely I did not have a tool that would get to that screw

Lesson learned is that the parts manual doesn't clearly identify parts in relationship to each other or other components. That should make this project interesting!

Thanks again!!!!

Yes - I hope he isn't playing with the CO adjustment screw - it will be hard to get it back in tune.

Hooray Jim! With my projects, it's usually these little things that try to defeat me.
