Default JUST TOOK DELIVERY OF A MURPH STAGE THREE SUPERCHARGER

Ups just dropped a couple of boxes.... It begins! I'm scared, I'm excited, I can't wait to go for a ride in a 500 horse rocket (plus or minus)!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm impressed with Tim's kit, all the parts seem well thought out and executed.I'm a bit intimidated, out of my league, but Tim says no problem... a couple of weekends(yeah right). Before I start I would like to get a Dyno baseline, sooo anyone know of a Dyno in maine? I will continue posted updates as thrash this thing out. I've heard from a couple guys with Murph kits, they all offer input and info my own self help network! This is like a Rennlist within a Rennlist, my confidence is on the rise! Thanks to anyone who can steer me right. Brian

There's really no need to feel intimidated. It's not too bad at all to install, and a number of people have done it who've never really worked on their cars much at all before. If you do have any questions, there's help available, so no need to have any concerns that you might be on your own.

Getting a baseline dyno is a good idea. It can help you find out if there are any problems with the car that you may not really be aware of. Finding any that there might be before you start the supercharger installation will make for a much more enjoyable installation.

You can search for a DynoJet located near you on the following web page:

Congrats! My advice is to setup a big table and lay everything out. I used a 4x8 sheet of plywood with a couple of sawhorses. Hardest part in my opinion is running the hoses for the intercooler. No easy way to do it.

Congrats to all!

I just finished a stage one install and the Murf kit was really straight forward. Ironically, I found mounting the four muffin fans to be the most challenging. It really helps to have an extra set of hands for this job. Of course, I didn’t get to deal with an intercooler and the associated plumbing.

I’d say about 90% of the work I did the last few weeks was in ‘preparation’ for the SC install. The Murf kit went on literally in a day or so.

Tips from a rookie:
1) Keep your tools organized and close
2) Keep your parts organized and not with your tools
3) Don’t try to force anything, if at first it doesn’t go on… try something else
4) Take lots of before and after photos (can never have too many)

If you want to see some of the ups and downs of my install, you can find them here:

First, congratulations for starting a forced induction project.

Second, believe what these supercharger guys say, they've been there done that.

Third, as suggested above, go to the dyno and figure out if everything is as it should be before starting the project.

Fourth, take a lot of digital photos all the time when taking things apart or putting new stuff together. Helpful both during the work and later on figuring out what the hell you actually did! ;-)

Fifth, make friends withsomeone in your area who owns a Sharktuner. If you retain the stock computers, that's really the only way to go in the long run.

One heat range cooler. For Bosch, you want the Bosch WR6DC - Stock is WR7DC. You could also use NGK's, but I don't know the part number. Remember that the NGK's have a higher number for the colder the heat range. So it will have an 8 in the part number.

Leadass, I can only imagine your anticipated first drive!! I do have a question for you and the others who opined on your thread with interest/experience. I've got "supercharging" on my consideration list for my 87 project car but have yet to research it. Did you or the others do any type of product comparison between this unit, the 928spec product and/or others that could be shared with the forum? I suspect they are all quality products but , like most products, some have different bells and whistles then others......would be nice to know

Hoving installed one of each and driven both cars, I feel I am in a uniques position to answer your quesation.

They really are different breeds. Both the Murf kit and the 928 SPecialists kits are quality products. The installation on the Specialists kit is more involved, but is a cleaner install IMO. I think the Murf kit makes more horse power, but the Specialists kit makes more area under the torque curve (more tq down low).

I don't know the pricing anymore, but I think they are within $500 of each other.

As for driving, they are very different animals. The murf kit keeps building and building boost. 5..6..7...8....10......12.....13 shift. The Specialists kit makes almost 90% of its boost down low. 8......8.5....9....9.2.....9.5..... shift. IMHO the Murf kit is a wilder ride, but that could be because I'm really used to my car.

Oh yeah... they're both very fast.
