Hmmm he mentioned that he wants to move ths one to get another, then mentioned that he had sold several 928s and that his brother works on them.
Now a good sign. He is willing to drive it 2 hrs to meet me in Chattanooga to sell it. (hence why I wasnt beating him up on the price vs his ebay didnt sell it price.

To answer your request for education (FWIW):
For the last 6 months somebody local in Nashville has placed advertisements on CL to recruit people to help him/her buy and flip goods from distressed sellers, identifying the Porsche 928 specifically as one focused example of underpriced bargain goods and really the one he was interested in. I've seen that ad frequently in searching CL for southeastern cars and parts. The advertisement was placed also in other adjacent southeast CL listings.

Right now on CL two people have advertised wanting to buy 928's in the for sale section in Nashville.

Nothing wrong with it from a commerce perspective, perhaps. It just reminds me to be very wary of ads like the one for this car. I don't want to buy a flipped 928.

I asked a lot of questions when the auction was running and got a vague, blow off, can't answer reply. Sounded fishy. Worth taking a look as you never know...might just be a weak seller and a good car. I'll never understand people who try to sell cars with pathetic pictures. It happens so often, even with 100k cars. Annoying would be an understatement. Good luck and post good pix if you buy.

Buying a flipped car isn't a big deal as long as due diligence is done. Get a PPI and make sure you're happy with the car cosmetically. If both are acceptable why not?

..willing to drive it 2 hours to meet you is a good sign IMO. At least the guy has faith in the car and it's reliability to do a 2 hr drive. If I had a car that had seen flood waters, no way in hell would I travel 2 to show it to a prospective buyer...so maybe this car is as dry as the day is long.
I certainly wouldn't rule this one out..particularly because you can now see it 'in the flesh'.
Hope it's a great car.

People who flip cars tend to have skills either buying cheap, making look nice, and/or selling high.

"IF" a flipper is smart and knowledgeable you pay a bit of a premium, but they may have the skills to buy only the nicest cars to start with, and skills and/or connections to get things fixed and make them look very nice. Lomiler is generally like that, and his customers tend to be very happy.

If a flipper doesn't have a clue about a 928 except for finding one cheap and seeing one sell for a lot on ebay, its really no different from buying from a used car dealer.

IMHO a flipped car needs a much more careful inspection than a typical car. Whoever does the inspection needs to be able to spot a turd rolled in glitter.

I would hope that anyone who is considering buying a 928 could spot a turd rolled in glitter, but there's plenty of fools out there.
