Default dong-dong alarm

When trying to find the source of the ignition switch problems, the annoying dong-dong-dong sound nearly drove me crazy

I know it is a common feature in many US cars (my US imported Miata also had it), but I would really like to disable it.

It sounds as if it is somewhere in the center console near the radio.
Before I start remove unneccessary parts, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
Michel

Not certain what you are referring to, but on my road trip to bring my car home for the first time in 2006 we heard something like that while out on the highway. Never since. What's it supposed to be telling us?

Its a tall black plastic case relay with perforation in the top. in the console as you suspect. It chimes for seatbelt not fastened OR keys in+ignition off+door open OR marker lights on+ignition off+door open OR parking lights on+ignition off+door open. It also controls the seat belt warning indicator lamps.

If you pull it you lose those features but nothing else...

If you come up with a good way to hold the door switch down, you can kill the noise, keep from running the battery down, and not lose any of the convenience features...

Holding the door pin will not be be a problem, but if I am not mistaking, that would cause me to loose interior lights as well.

So I will go with pulling the chime/relais.

Is the chime also standard on EU models?

First thing I do on any car I buy is get rid of those noise-makers ...

We live in a time of gratuitous noise pollution. Ever walk past a car in a parking garage when someone uses the remote to lock their car and it blows the horn? WTH is the point of that? A horn is a device to warn someone in another vehicle of an imminent danger or emergency situation.
