18 inch versions of Classic 928 Wheels
#62
Thanks guys, I love the wheels too. I have no idea who made them, and I've been searching for a few years now for more info. Nobody has been able to tell me anything. Until I find something out, I'll just keep my eyes open for any other sets that become available.

CCW Phone Dials?
Has anything come from looking into making 17 or 18 inch Phone Dial style wheels at CCW in Daytona?
The way I understand such 2- or 3-piece wheels being made, the centers are manufactured to withstand the specific stresses of the new wheels - that is, original wheels (Phone Dials) would not be used for the centers.
Would Porsche object to having their form copied (as they seem to in other situations)? Then again, HRE made 311's for a while, and someone else is making something similar it seems.
I kinda like them Phone Dials..

I really like the 993, three piece Targa wheels I've got on my 89. (see avatar)

I think the key is an exact, scaled up replica of any 928 factory wheel. I've seen the beautiful old 911 Fuchs 'updated' to modern sizes and they just don't look as good as the classic original.
The muscle car guys have done a great job making bigger versions of classic wheels.

I think to make a great looking wheel you may need to put something on a car, look at it, mess with it, repeat a few times, before you hit on what works.
