Default S4 Fuel Economy?

Hi folks,

Just wondering what (stock) S4 drivers are seeing for MPG. Mine seems to run pretty well, but I'm getting about 12 - 14 MPG around town, and that's a bit less than I'd expect. Previous 928 was a '93 GTS 5-speed, which didn't generally do less than 16 MPG.

Thanks,
Paul

I average between 14 and 16 around town in my '90 S4. I don't make any conscious effort to go easy on the gas and do have moments when I can't help but make that V-8 rumble turn into a roar.

Stock S4 auto - 22.9 mpg since I have owned it (14k miles). 20.3 mpg on one memoble trip where I 'theoretically' reached 150mph and 'may have' averaged 120mph between a couple of towns.

Well, on the highway, when I drove the car out here from Atlanta, I was getting about 22 MPG. It's really more the around town driving I was concerned about. Here in Colorado Springs, we don't spend too much time stuck in traffic, so "city" driving still moves pretty well. That's part of why I'm surprised to be getting such low mileage. The GTS numbers were from when I lived in Denver, which had quite a bit more traffic.

If I got more than 10 miles to the gallon, there would be a couple of my local 928 mentors who would scold me for not driving it right!

George and I got less than 5mpg at the Bonneville 100. But we did average 160mph for 50 miles.....

My typical range is between 16 and 22, depending on conditions. I've had the occasional 15 in front of the decimals, but that's rare.

Just curious, does the lower octane in Colorado (but at higher altitude) affect mileage or performance much? I assume you are using Colorado 87 Octane?

I run super, which is 91 octane here. In theory, though, milage is lower at higher altitude, since the engine can't operate as efficiently.

On the other other hand, I am comparing the S4 milage to the GTS milage, and both were operated in Colorado, within 1000 feet of the same elevation (Colorado Springs is about 700' higher than Denver).

Got that right

I never worry too much about mileage per say but rather how far a tank of fuel will get me at hi hwy speeds.

A recent return trip to Edmonton was approx 1200kms and I know that by 900kms I was on fumes after 2 full tanks............avg speed was 130kph

Think I'll dig through the service history and see how old that O2 sensor is...

Edit: Hmmm, 18K miles and <2 years. Should be OK...
