I would not associate fuel economy with an S4. More like gas hog, anyways pretty much what been said seems about right. Much better going down hill.....

Wait a minute.............I drive plenty fast enough..........just ask the wife

Doing the math again 2 tanks of fuel ~150l and 900 km travelled before warning light on and another ~10km before the nearest gas station. This computes to 16.67l/100km.

Going back to the conversion tables I now read 14.11mpg..............now thats better

I tend to get 14 in mixed driving in CA. Not sitting still a whole lot, but still mostly a commuter car. I don't see how anyone could ever average in the 20s, unless they were with the car idling on the back of a flatbed tow truck driving flat out on the freeway...

Were you buy your gas can make a difference. I travel a lot and have found the best MPG using Shell gas. Second is Exxon or BP. The worst is Quicktime or Speedway.
My MPG is 14 in the winter and 15 to 16 in the summer. The transmission seems weak and could be the cause for that or the fact that I drive 80mph when ever possible.

'87 S4, 180 k miles (300 k kms) on the clock
Just drove from Ottawa to Barrie:
Back roads, for 300 miles (480 km) 60-80 mph
11.25 liters/100 km or
25 mpg (imp gallons) or
21 mpg (US little gallons)
Range before reserve light: 415 miles, 660 km
Reserve range: 67 miles 106 km
Total theoretical range: 482 miles 772 km
I know i sound boring but I calc the mileage every tank after a long run - if there is a problem with tune I know it right away.
Just put in a new temp sensor from 928srus and got 2mpg better mileage.

Cheers

Recently drove over 1,700 km and areraged 11.2 litres per 100km average speed for the trip around 100kms per hour. Longet run on tank 560 kms, with still around 180 to 200km left as per computer and also running on RON91 fuel. Max speed limit 110kph.

City driving 16 to 20lts/100km, and this totally dependent on stop, start, but if too much "pedal to the metal'. up to 22 lts/100km.

Check this consumption against the Owner Operation Manual graphs and appears to be nearly spot-on.

12,5L/100km is about what I also got as a long term average when I used the S4 as a daily driver. It's about 19 mpg.

I forgot about the smaller US gal and have no idea if the online coversion tables account for that..............isn'nt there also a smaller weight measurement?

I'm mostly converted now although its taken a long time to adjust so not to worried.

I get about 9.5l/100km when i am on the dead flat, no wind and at 100km. Keeping an eye on economy can also tell you about the condition of the car so useful every now and then but mostly I get much less than that, can't keep the right foot up very well...
