I was just working on an 82 I just put a set of Bosch wires on. I took a look at one of the wires the plug connector says Beru on it, and oddly it also says W. Germany. Perhaps they have a stash of Beru connectors left over from the days of the divided Germany?

Maybe they changed back or some warehouses still have the Bosch / Beru wires on the shelf.

The Beru ends are definitely the way to go. If I didn't mangle my last set of Bosh wires too bad, I'll upload images of what the crimp end looked like under the connector.

That's the key... I recently pulled a set of old wires off a '91 and several of the ends were badly corroded that we replaced the entire set - including ends. Car ran much better after that.

For DIY the econo type sets without ends are fine, but its a tedious time consuming job I would not care to pay a mechanic to do, so a complete loom ready to drop in can be money well spent if you aren't doing the work yourself.

I don't throw away anything except wires, unless it tests bad. I keep all the ends that are in spec (about 2.9k iirc), and all the loom parts.

The Beru crimper is expensive, but their bulk wire and M13 ends aren't.

Anybody have an alternative crimper idea?

Meanhwile, I've just ordered a set of the wires sans ends from Roger.

The Beru crimper is only expensive ONCE, let Roger or Mark do the crimping and make a fair profit.

OTOH I have one of these, so it would just mean making a set of dies to fit the Beru crimp. Some type of "cable" coax crimper might work too, but those aren't cheap either.

BTW real Beru wire isn't all that inexpensive even in bulk.

Crimping the outer shell round the wire is the easy part (I have a crimper for that).

You need the crimp tool that will pinch the wire that goes down the middle of the threaded part without buggering up the threads or bending the pin.

Nice HF unit. Might work. I've used a hex coax crimper to save a couple. Might be able to use a punch to crimp and solder the ends. also.

It does add-up quickly, $2/foot for Beru wire (though redneck yellow wire with tinned copper inner can be had for 50% less), $1 each for M13 connectors...

Nice tool.

I agree, no intention to make them.

We already sell the Beru wire "only" sets and I put them in the economy basket.
Back to topic - I guess I will just have to supply a set of 87 to 95 Beru wires and have them fitted to a 32v 85 to 86 and monitor the outcome.
I have a customer in NY who may be up for that task 8>)

BNC connectors crimp the wire over the center pin, maybe a crimper designed for them would work on the Beru center pin?

That's not a bad idea, I actually have one of those somewhere.
