It's known also as F4 tape and centerline tape.
Phantom II... Man thats going way way back... a lifetime ago... Fly-em hard and they hold together pretty good. Park em and they turn into a nightmare. Most of ours had open trash cans under them - to catch the fuel... Thats a side looking recce bird, or something, right? ;] Pop

RF4C from Zweibrucken. I actually worked on that one.

Default Another Happy Harness

On the S4's, as shown in your picture, it's run in front of the timing belt covers.
I think mine split in the same location, but luckily only the outer insulation. It also ran up behind the cam gear tower... my original picture was a bit deceiving.

The harness material coming up from beside the water pump is very rigid. At the “Y” the material switches to something much less rigid/strong and easily cracks forming sharp edges. This left unchecked could easily wear away and sever the wire they were originally intended to protect.

The F-4 vulcanizing self amalgamating tape worked well for me. You might notice a few other weak spots I beefed up in the last picture.

Hi Kurt: I can see now what you're talking about. Looks like the wires to the temp switch/sensors on the coolant crossover separate from behind the DS cam gear plate. The remaining wires for the starter and alternator come out from behind there through the opening in the cover. On the '85, all those cables are in the same harness and they all run over the top of the water pump.

I agree with you about sharp edges created by the cracked harness jacket. The self vulcanizing/amalgamating tape is a life saver for this types of cable problems.

I've got a few more places for that tape to go before it's all back together.
