My recent purchase, 1979 5 spd, is missing the porsche hood emblem. I found what appears to be a new one with the rubber seal in a parts box that came with the car.

The hood has an outline from the previous emblem and when I dry fit the new one it appears to be slightly smaller. Are there different sizes or just variations in manufacture? When installing the emblem should I put any type of sealer under the emblem or rubber seal?

Generally speaking, they are all the same size. I'm not sure how far back that goes...

No sealer needed.

There is a rubber gasket that goes between the paint and the emblem.
