Default My Euro OB

Well, it's now officially mine. And it's not a 1980(though it says on the title) but a 79.

Pics

It starts, runs etc. Brakes are in bad shape, my foot went to the floor, and the ! light went on. Disks are rusty. Do I need to resurface/replace?

Fluid may be low or something. Battery is dead, maybe alternator too(no gauges, so no way to check on drive home). '85 battery does not fit '79.

Car shifts ok. A teensy weensy bit of grinding, but clutch felt good. The shifting is a lot less notchy than my 85. Exhaust is cut somewhere.

Interior is in good shape, but stinky. Dash is leather, but not warped. Headliner warped, a little. Outside latch on door on drivers side inoperative. Window on passenger side also inoperative. All gauges inoperative, as is stereo. Body is in need of full repaint, plus a couple dings need straightening. Mirror on passenger side missing glass.

Insulation blanket under hood completely gone and will need replacement. Hoses seemed ok, don't know about belts. Hatch is rusted.

Well, I wanted something to use as a lab rat to get my hands dirty, and this car definitely fits the bill in that respect. First step, break out ye olde multimeter.

Oh, and all the gauges are in German. Anyone know how to translate?

My guess is you will need a brake master cylinder. Both of my OB's needed one. Check where the rod behind the pedal goes into the body, if there is fluid present, your master cylinder is probably leaking. If you do end up replacing it, I would go ahead and replace the blue hose, and soft line between the master and slave clutch cylinders.
