Well I dug around in the spare parts that came with the car and found the brake master, reservoir, pressure regulators and lines. So the question is are they good and just pulled off because of the blown flex line?

I have a new flex line, and rebuild kits for the slave and master clutch assemblies. Need some experienced users opinions on a couple of questions:

1. Since much of the system is apart and drained should I also redo brake calipers and lines at the same time or am I asking for trouble?

2. I have read several posts and I can't figure out where the clutch master attaches. Is it below the brake master?

3. Any other WIAAI's since all these parts are out?

Thanks All.
Jim

Whatever you do with the master cyl itself, I would replace the brake light switches - as a pair. Cheap VW/Audi items. Dont over tighten! Connect the wiring plugs BEFORE assembling it to the booster also - difficult afterwards. Also check the reservoir grommets - they die of old age and fail, leak. Also cheap - ATE make from MB dealers etc. Read up here on clutch bleeding issues before starting there.

The clutch master cylinder is at the end of the dreaded blue hose, the fluid reservoir is integral to the brake fluid reservoir, the dreaded blue hose connects to the reservoir.

clutch bleeding is a little different to most vehicles, search on here for instructions.

'79 5 speeds cheap and cheerfull fun.

Cheers Roy

Sharkskin has a great write up on the process and from the picture the mclutch master at the end of the blue hose has a flange so I assumed it was mounted somewhere. Does it just hang inline or does it mount somewhere?

I do have new brake swictches, reservoir grommets, brake lines etc coming.

What brake fluid is everyone using / recommending?

For normal street driving, the Castrol LMA fliuid is great. If you track the car or use the brakes heavily, many like the ATE Super Blue or Gold. The Castrol is available at mainstream parts places so has the advantage of easy to find compared with the ATE.
