Default Am I Running Too Hot?

I had a chance to run my car in some of the hotter weather it's seen down here in FL - 88 degrees F with high humidity. The temp gauge was between the two white marks, but began drifting toward the upper white mark - it never got there, but it was close. In the past, with weather in the 60's it was running about mid way between the two white lines or below.

Is what is described with the hotter conditions normal / acceptable?

P.S. When I massage the lower radiator hose, it does not always fell full, but with some compressions you can feel hot fluid passing by.

Thanks, Dave

Thats normal.....the gauges in 928's can vary quite a bit....but generally the 1st white line is 170F and the 2nd is 195F with the red at 210F + warning light....

A good test is your running temp at speed (say freeway) then in town stop and go traffic for the same weather conditions.....the temps should be a bit lower on the freeway, but it varies....if its significantly higher in town, then you have an airflow problem....

Are the "cooling" vents in the bumper functional, or locked open?

I don't know.

Am struggling with my own 32V heat issue. Any manual downshifting and mild revving of the auto car gets me the last white line.

Yesterday I removed the brand new thermostat. Replaced it with the original "sat 10 years" thermostat. Now it runs horizontal, minimal creep upwards.

Next step: put the suspect into the rock-solid 84 auto and see what happens.

Thanks Brian, The vents, seem to be working - I watched them cycle from closed to semi open, and then full open when I shut her down.

I have two 16V cars and one 32V running on the second mark or very slightly above, with very little but some rise when I hot rod them. The other 32V has run midway, with constant excursions up to the last white mark. Thermostat change as stabilized the car, but I'm still wondering about running hot. Its not about the gauge, really, because it feels hot, real hot in the console area and by my feet. Today I ran it to VA Beach and back, about a 5 1/2 hour run, and it was noticeably cooler.

That thermostat must open far enough to close the back passage. The new one seemed short.

Sorry if this seems like one of those dumb newbie questions, but what and where are these "cooling" vents??

Someone will have to chime in on whether your car has them, but they are a set of louvers located forward of the radiators down near the intake on the front fender. When they work, they adjust their opening from 0% to 100% with 30% (in think) as an in between. At some point they were discontinued by Porsche

I have read that some people just disable them in the full open position to avoid possible overheating issues.
