Doen ferget a spool ah bailin wiar, some wiar plars, some duck tape, and some dubua de fordy. Oh dern, dat's what does in duh glub box of duh pickup truck.

When Porsche entered the 959s in the Paris Dakar Ralley, didn't they outfit a whole Unimog with tools and spare parts?

You guys make it sound like a 928 needs a support vehicle to make a trip.

Well said Wally.

My friend on a holiday in his caravan with wife stopped over night in a rest stop and a few bikies arrived.

He always kept a rifle above the door, so as he got out of the van he held the rifle at high point and asked "can I help you" and at that instant the rifle went off (intentionally). My friend said " I did not think it was loaded", as he pulled back the breach and took a bullet in and stated "now it loaded".

The bike riding gentlemen left.

I have this nice very complete kit (cost me $80 at Costco) that works great. Folds up into a nice case that's only a few inches tall. I'll also bring a tow strap, a spare MAF, spare LH, a flashlight, and a Leatherman. Oh yeah, a 27mm socket too.

I pack almost the same tools for any road trip with any car.

I carry a spare ignition cassette in the SAAB at tall times with the necessary tools to change it.

Porsche delivered these cars with a nice set of tools, most of us are just adding to the inventory.

Not really a support vehicle, just practical sense. The cost of getting the car towed to somewhere I'd be happy to have it repaired is higher than the cost of all the spares I carry.

That and we're a small enough market that the closest sources for most of the parts that could go wrong are in the USA, or the UK. If we order parts from the local Porsche dealer, then not only do they charge us more than the US/UK sources, but the parts take 5 weeks to get here from Germany, as Porsche Australia don't keep many 928 parts in stock.

A lot of Australia is more remote than the Paris-Dakar rally
