Default Lower Exterior WIndow Rubber?

I am in need of new exterior lower window rubber wipers for both sides of my '84S. I see that the various suppliers offer them for $153 to $193 EACH. Is there a cheaper solution that anyone has found? I really hate to spend that many $$$. Color me CHEAP!

I also have an '81 that needs them too, but it isn't on the road so it can wait....the '84 is a driver, but the strips are rock hard and are marking the windows......

Any suggestions beyond "suck it up and write the check?"

thanks and regards,

Jim

try using silicone grease on the inner edges of the metal channel this will prevent corrosion and then the seal will be easier to install keep the grease off the part that rubs on the window as it will leave a streak every time the window is opened

Make sure the inner door guides aren't also damaging the glass. If worn they will also leave scratches on the glass on the inside.

Sort of figured the RollsRoyce Merlin engines used by P51's might have something to do with it....licensed and built by Packard?

sorry about the thread drift.....but it sounds interesting at least to me.....the following has nothing to do with 928's.....

I was recently told of a "car" that used 4 Merlin engines...I did not see it, but I did see all the valve covers he had just had powder coated in one of his buidings....so that prompted a discussion, I hope to see it one day, but it is a thousand miles away...he says he is restoring it.......he had many cars, 2 Indy racers from the 40's and 50's, 2 AFX cars from the earlier 60's, 1 perfect model A roadster, an AK Miller hillclimber, a couple of Offy engines, and he knows what they are all worth........says he has a dozen or so barns full of "stuff" like the one I was in...... also think I saw a "Pooper" back in a corner...sort of hard to tell......and for those not into 50's racing stuff a Pooper is a Porsche (356 engine) powered Cooper. This fellow's father also had barns full of stuff back in the 60's when I was building and abusing my first cars, so he gets it naturally....and I was in every one of those....and he still has some of the cars his father collected up 50+ years ago.....many are "barn finds" and some are restored to a high level, mostly the AFX stuff is what he seems to like best....

I searched high and low; Roger has the best price for the scraper. I haven't installed mine yet, but FWIW, after receiving them, I see why they cost so much.

A lot of people have described how to install them on this board, but it all sounds kind of abstract... "push on the lower edge of the dog-eared tip with your elbow pointed towards the rearview mirror..." If you beat me to it Jim, please upload some pictures. Thanks and good luck! / Bruce

If the channel is lubed (soapy water...?) and one ear of the rubber started, the other ear can be rolled in with a round object (1/2-3/4" screwdriver handle) held at an angle. Once started its quite quick to do. Wait until you need to replace the channel in the top of the door frame for some sticker shock.
