Default Retractable rear spoiler

HI.
I've read that the Porsche 928 one day had a retractable rear spoiler.
I never have seen a picture or movie of this spoiler.
Does anyone have any more info about this shortly lived retractable rear spoiler ?
Why was it discontinued ?
Any pic's ?

Thanks.
Paul

not necessarily retractable.. but flippable. early 87 S4s had a wing that would flip up to facilitate cleaning. Problem was, the hinge broke and it was around $400 for a new set...now unavailable..so a fixed wing was added in late 87..

Are you talking about the flip-up spoiler on the early '87 S4's? Yes, there was such a thing, but it doesn't do anything functional at speed. Most think that its purpose was to allow easier washing of the rear window.

Looks the same as any other S4 when it's down. Here it is flipped up.

It was actually so that you could read the "928" on the window trim...

Kinda looks like a speed brake in the up-folded position.

Another view of the "flip-up" wing.
