Default D90 refurbishing.

Hi.
Recently I bought a set of original Design 90 rims with RDK sensors.
I was pleased to find them because I think the flat discs are a little bit oldfashion on my S4 (no offence).
I considered to polish or repaint the flat discs but the D90 came along on the I-net and I bought them for $500,-.

The rims are nice but not in the condition I want them under my car so I contacted a local rim-doctor and asked him what the cost would be te have them repainted and partly polished. Also 2 need some welding to make them 100% proper.
In all the job costs $900 for the rims to be in new condition. Add the $500 for the rims themself and the total cost would be 1400 bucks.
When they are under my car I can sell the flat discs and get some money back.

What do YOU think. Is it worth the money ?

I post some pictures of the state they are in right now and the result I want to archive. Thanks to the poster of the colored rims, they made me decide what to do with them.

Thanks.
Paul

Paul the only thing I would change is the center caps. Gold Crest with paint looks great and really makes them look like car jewelry.

Is it worth it? That really depends on you. Are there other wheels available at that price which you would prefer?

Remember that finding tires for D90's isn't easy and the options continue to diminish unfortunately.

I don't think 900 is bad for paint, polish and some lip repair.

Hi.
Nice for you to respond, I looked very often at your wheels as a reference.
The only thing I would like to do different is to spray the wheels all over with my car-color and then polish the outer ring so it would shine like a mirror.
The center cap with the colored logos hmmmm didn't think about it but now you mention it I think I like it.
Next saturday (1st of may) there is a large meeting of Porsche owners in Germany. I never visited this event but I read there were 2500 Porsches at the city of Dinslaken. Also many stands with mercendise and maybe I can find those colored center caps. But they also has to be painted in dark gray (my color) then around the crest. Therefore its handy I give them to the paintshop before they begin work on my rims.

An alternative for the D90 rims isn't a real option for me. To be honest I see too many 928's with CUP. Speedlines (see attached picture, I think they are Speedlines) are the next best alternative but I would have to miss the RDK. This function I like because it gives the car the original look and feel.
I like my car to be close to original and I don't want to get a look of a streetracer competing with speedy Nissans, Golf GTI's etc. cars.

Thanks.
Paul

One thing to keep in mind about the dishes is that you are not likely to get more than $200 for them. There are a lot of them out there and not many people looking for them for the same reason you're getting rid of yours.

Hi Matt,
I bought the D90 with good Michelin tires on them. Maybe I keep the flat discs myself and put those Michelins on them and use them as a winter set.
Winters in The Netherlands can be very nasty.

Thanks.

Took Your advise and bought heavy metal centre caps with colored Porsche crest. The crest is detachable so the cap can be painted in carcolor too.

Thanks.

I'll post pictures in a couple of weeks for you te see the result.

Thanks,
Paul
