Default Under hood temps.... how to lower them

What kind of tricks or hood mods has been done to lower engine bay temps and keep it cooler down there? even at 75F here in NM today, its mighty hot under that hood....

I don't think its going to be practical to reduce average temperatures much, and don't care for "vents" in the hood or fenders. I would keep the flow going out the bottom and plan on doing the following;

Big electric fan that runs for a few minutes after shut down.
Thermal coating on inside and out of headers and intake.
Upgrade the wiring harnesses to modern high temp wire.
Make sure all the hood seals are in good shape, maybe add some ducting around radiator, and extend the intake tubes forward of the AC condenser.

Header and exhaust coatings will do the most. I like Swain.

I can only tell you with very little to compare, after driving a modded 1988 for about an hour, that these seemed to work very, very well:

https://www.928gt.com/ps-40372-80-92...tem-77-86.aspx

The outside temperature was about 65 degrees. The temp. gauge never went above the first mark (and the car was driven hard). I drove another 1988 afterwards and not nearly as long or as hard and it was up above the second mark (and holding), FWIW...

YMMV,
Michael

Check the temps with a laser thermal probe.

Switch to Amsoil synthetic oil.

Those dual fan kits look awesome! My 16V could probably benefit from not having to drive the factory fan.

Mine's got 132k. I switched two weeks ago and have zero leaks.

Engine cavity temps are lower. I haven't measured the temps, but I can pop the hood and work on the engine comfortably, whereas before I switched I had to wait a very long time before I could work on it.

I'm sure you're like me and MUST have a clean engine and cavity. Cleaning an engine and cavity is the very first thing I do when I buy a car. Dirt and grime traps heat in an engine and tranny like nothing else. Also, it's a heck of lot easier to spot leaks on a clean engine.

Make sure the undertrays are present, apparently this is worth at least 10 deg.

What are undertrays? Belly panels that direct cool air in and hot air out?
