Unhappy Need my Fellow Rennlisters! 1978 - Oil Leak

Today trip was a good Interstate run for about 125 miles at top speed at times. Attached are two pics of an oil leak just sitting there. I am sure this view is not new to some of you, but new to me. What is your initial triage? I do not want to take it to the garage, and say "I have a leak somewhere? Here is my first born child, and my checking account #"

I would like to say 'Fix my leak from my____________!'

Brothers, Please fill in the blank for me. There are no wrong answers as your guess probably needs fixed too

It's probably just the blowback oil - these cars do that, at DR of 928 Spec sells a fix for it. Make sure your oil cap is on tight too. It looks crooked or cross threaded in the picture, and oil can be leaking from it.

It appears you are pointing to the oil in 'the valley'. This is where the CIS housing sits on top of the block right behind the oil fill area.

If that is the case, here's your potential problem areas:

- oil cap - there is a gasket under the oil cap that goes bad
- oil cap screw does look crooked and oil blow back can escape from there
- oil fill housing has a paper gasket that is at the same height of 'the valley' (most likely the culprit) that goes bad
- not a hard job but there could be some gotchas
- remove your cis lines to the WUR and the air intake area
- remove the waterbridge (easy unless the bolts are seized)
- remove the oil fill housing
- replace gasket - clean area - use yamabond - put all back together

Good luck...

Try turning off the flash and using a flashlight.

Thanks brothers, I feel dumb. I should of inspected before panicing.
It was as simple as the hose that leads from the oil cap area to the air intake area. The screw/bracket around the hose was loose, in result the motor oil was dripping, and of course, I had a good oil coat in my air intake filter area.:....banghead:
