Is $1,000.00 too much for a '89 928 valve cover gasket replacement?

Sorry guys, to clear things up a bit Don Jackson Porsche in Pheonix is not a Porsche dealer apparently but a Porsche only mechanic.

Roger probably said it best that I should not be such a whiner and just drive my a$$ home and hope for the best. Roger and Sean will be seeing me on a regular basis I can assure...

Thanks everyone for the input and making it easier for a new guy to jump into owning one of these exceptional cars.

Alex-

P.S. If they find my dead decayed dried out corpse in the Arizona desert clutching a sales reciept, still sitting in the remains of a once sweet red 928, please speak of me well. Cheers.

I think you might have taken my post out of context I was referring to most of there service departments. Either way were each entitled to our opinion but for service work I recommend a specialist garage. That's my $.02.

I still wouldn't let him work on it unless I got to ask a bunch of 928 specific questions. But, it sounds like you're going to go ahead anyway.

I vote for the "ship it to Sean" scenario ... all those hours in the car, breathing burning oil fumes ... life's too short

Apologies to Roger, but the best place for bondage is in the comfort of your own home, not out on the highway ;-)

That's the spirit! (says the wimp who needs to have everything perfect before driving and then have a automobile help card and two fire extinguishers on hand). Just make sure oil isn't pouring out when the engine runs.

Synthetic oil just smokes. Difficult to make it burn, AFAIK.

(I smoke a lot of it on my leaky '85.)

Your inquiry certainly evoked a wide range of advice & opinions! Good luck with the mission, however you begin it. You certainly have a nest of knowledgeable 928'rs down there.

What I was saying is that with out Rennlist many of the running 928's would not be running today.

As far as working on 928's, a pro mechanic VS a non mechanic, I am sure that we would have a different outlook on some things.
