no. Nor will I ask. Lady seemed pretty pissed that I told her the car looked like a much higher mile example than what it was represented to be. In any event, I'd want to see this one in person before plopping down any money on it.

The pictures are from the seller.

So.... what I was told, the car belonged to an ophthalmologist since new, someone else had it after that and it's been sitting for 15 years. The paint was re-cleared coated??? I may go by and look at it tomorrow, get the vin# and take some pictures. If anyone is interested.

that's supposed to be a 7k mile interior? Was the car left outside? My car has 30k miles and it has zero (I mean ZERO) wear on the pascha or vinyl, and what about the steering wheel cover? It doesn't add up with the splits in the passenger seat cover and the wear on the back/bottom of the driver's seat. Unless it was just abused.

If you go look at it, see if you can get some pictures of the engine.

See my post above - she sent me pics of the engine (don't have them on this computer); and it is no way a 7900 mile motor. Plus there is some funky wiring near the hot poost that isn't stock.

I worked on the photos a bit, now you can see the interior a bit better. Judging by the vents she might be a later 78 or 79...

Here is the link to 53 pictures I took of the car today. There are too many things that point to the fact this car just might have 7,900 miles on it. I just don't know. The steering wheel (just dried out), shifter ****, door handle, etc. just don't show wear. No wear on the seat bolsters. Even the peddles aren't worn. There are no records, it has set for a very long time. Just neglected. The engine sounds pretty good. TB has been changed. Not sure where the slotted rotors on the front came from. The paint job isn't great, masking marks along the doors, hood, etc. Body panels appear straight. Neat OB, fun to go look at.

So here you go, let the frenzy begin. I'll try to answer what questions I can.

Things I note:

* That service tag suggests that it was driven regularly for it's first year at least. Accumulating just 1400 miles since then??

* No matter how well that engine has been detailed, it's clean.

* inside of the hood: seems odd that the pad is gone but the sticker is there. If the pad was a victim on the repaint, so should the sticker?

* The pasha is well faded but not really worn.

* electrical tape for wiring shroud under the dash? Is that stock?

I think this is a relatively low mile car, possibly the odometer is accurate. But if so it has sat for 30 years, and not in a way that would preserve it. You say it has masking marks, i.e., a poor repaint? Would have been better off leaving it original...

In hindsight, yes probably should have been left as is. I was told something had dripped onto the left front fender and ruined the paint. ??brake fluid??
Someone should run the vin# and see what the State of Missouri has for a history. I have a guy from another forum checking on it now, we'll see.

Interesting. Maybe it is authentic mileage, but it must have been really neglected (outside, or stored somewhere really damp) to have that much deterioration on some of the interior parts. In one picture it looks like the carpet under the hatch is really water damaged, for example - and what is up with the paint all scraped off the hatch shocks?

Also- slotted rotors are original on a '79.

Seat bolsters look like vinyl to me, so I would not expect even moderate mileage to show much wear.

Whats the point even if it is low mileage, actual mileage does not appear to be documented and its going to need a lot of restoration. I think I might prefer to start with a higher mileage car that still has good original paint.

VIN is 9289202068

When I got my '79 at 70k miles it's vinyl bolsters had moderate wear; ugly but not showing foam. This one is much better shape. I'm not saying the mileage is correct, but it does seem like a fairly low miler.

I won't argue with a better maintained one with higher mileage being a better buy...

Hello all well I just happen to be one of the proud owners of that 1979 928 with 7900 miles and I just wanted to say that we understand to some degree of the mileage issue but we also know the original owner of the car this man was close to 400 pounds and was very wealthy and did not take good care of this car we have known this man for over 35 years and is now deceased. We would invite anyone to come and look at this car.

Hello bluto, I just happened to be the proud owner of that inherited porsche located outside of my tract house, I just have a couple questions, so if you saw the ad with a Mansion would your response be anymore shallow than it is now? And the last question are you jealous that I have a 1979 Porsche 928 with only 7900 miles? If you would like to come see the car could you please call first to make sure that I move it to a very wealthy neighborhood that doesn't have tract housing!!!!

Default 928 7900 miles

Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself I am one of the proud owners of the ever so judged 1979 928 with 7900 miles! It is awesome to see peoples reaction when they think they know what they are talking about! " Nailed it just as I suspected", "Its a roll over". I had a member of this site come to my house and look at the car in fact he took 53 pictures and I am pretty sure he believes that the mileage is correct but I think he would've thought otherwise if he hadn't came in person. Anyways I saw that a few people were researching the car history and vin# anyone have the info and if so please post it. We agree that the mileage may seem untrue but with all my research I haven't seen otherwise, so I am very curious if anyone has came up with any info. It is very unfortunate that the previous owners did not take good care of this car!!!!
