I need help on how to deep clean my 928
I bought this 928 and it was such a deal I didn't worry about the paint job. Now that I have time to work on it, I noticed that its just paint from a can that he/she sprayed on it. The car could use a real deep cleaning to the paint job to strip off the extra paint on the body. What can I do to really clean it and strip off whatever paint they applied? I took an eraser wheel to a small portion and it took it right off, but I can't use the wheel to do all the entire car. Anybody have any ideas on what I need to use on getting the extra paint off and bring back the original paint?

what year-color is your 928....since many 928's were painted in base color only..it is possible you think its been repainted when it hasn't...... certain solid colors that are NOT metallic were often base coat only...like white-red-black-blue etc...so it is normal to pull color when waxing.....the good and bad of single stage paints is they are VERY VERY hard....so even heavy oxidation can be removed... as long as the stock factory paint is kept intact

Joe take some really good pictures of the paint and the areas where you removed some paint.
What type of tools do you have at your disposal and or how much are you willing to spend on tools/products.

The car hasn't been repainted, it just has number of bright spots that somebody has sprayed paint on it. I rubbed off some of the sprayed paint it I can see the original paint. When I run my hand down the car I feel that its bumpy, like it still has a bunch of dirt on top of the paint. I ran the wheel over it and it took off whatever extra spray paint that they applied to it. I know this should be an easy clean up job but I don't have any equipment to clean it up. I have 2 944's, 1 Boxter and the 928 and I want to get some equipment so I can keep them as clean as possible.

The original paint is all intact, no chipping or peeling at all. It's just this spray paint that somebody sprayed on it. They just sprayed it in a number of places but its not permanent. I just need to find out what I can use to get it off without destroying the original paint.

What color is the car? Also what year is the 928?
Depending on color and year, it may not have clear coat, which will change the answer to your questions
If you're not sure which color, have a look here:

If it's rattle can paint, you can use a solvent. Try some lacquer thinner. If that's not good enough, use a little urethane reducer. That will wrinkle and lift lacquer faster then paint stripper, but won't damage the catalyzed paint underneath.

+1 on lacquer thinner and maybe look for proper buffer, I payed 140.00 for a buffer kit with all the different attatchments and polishes, it even came with a bucket. Search wet sanding with 2000 grit but it takes some practice.

Why do you think someone would have sprayed paint on the car if the paint actually looked GOOD in those places???? That would be really stupid. My guess is the places that have been painted have been so for a REASON? Don't you?

Sorry I couldn't resist
BAM , 747 landed in your yard ? Eezyoff BAM Aircraft Remover and BAM it's gone
B52 in your bath , just one spray of ACME aircraft remover and like the road runner it's over the horizon.
Tired of those unsightly DC3 stains in your lavatory? New Duck aircraft remover with pine and it's aircraftO' cleen
Where were we?
Oh yeah
start with a clay bar and gently discover exactly what is underneath the "new goop"
Are the solid colours dating from late 80's really two pack catalysed paints ? In my experience they react to solvents more like a typical one pot enamel of the xylene solvent based variety that has probably been outlawed in CA for about 20,000 years LOL

No idea why they did it because there's no damage to the car on those spots. Other than one tiny dent, there's no damage at all to the body or paint. Appears that the previous owner garage kept the car because even the clear coat is in great shape.
