I wish I could move somewhere else but I love my friends too much to leave permanently!

Kevin, Dan, and Rick,
Had to chuckle about Kevin's comment that it is "hot" for 4 months in the Valley of the Sun!! I lived in Tempe for 4 years in the mid-late '60's, and the saying at that time was: "If you can survive the first summer in Phoenix, you'll never want to leave. Of course many people don't survive their first summer".
I certainly enjoyed the time and living conditions there (grad school, and a year as an ASU prof), but there were a lot less people (and traffic) then than now - and I need a bit of elbow room. As a matter of fact, my wife is flying into Sky Harbor today to visit her ste-daughter in Flagstaff who is a veterinarian there. Hope she has an uneventful trip.
Best wishes to you and Lora, Dan in your very important decision about where to live. Lots of nice places in this good ole' US of A, but not sure there is a perfect one - Ha!

Gary your last comment really hit home. My wife and I were very seriously thinking about moving back to SoCal because we both loved it there. I also have a possible job offer that would allow us to live anywhere in the US and work from home Problem in SoCal is that if I ever did lose my job there would be a risk that I wouldn't find another quickly. That and the high cost of living and pending higher taxes.
With exception to the weather and the people being somewhat closed to making new friends we no other complaints about MA. All in all a great place to live with a stable future.
Dan you might want to consider the S.Shore area of MA or even the Cape. On the water and plenty of jobs with acceptable cost of living.
