Default Hood alignment

Hi guys (and girls),
Nearby the windscreen my hood is higher on the left side then on the right side.
The specialist says the brackets have to be replaced to get both sides in sync but I'm just curious if I can re-align them myself ?
Anyone done this ?

Greetz,
Paul

Yes, I've done this. The hinges are probably OK. They bolt to the body in once position. The attachement to the hood has two bolts and is adjustable it both up/down and fore/aft.

Simple way: Loosen the two bolts, just a bit, and press down on the hood. That sounds simple and it is...once you've done it several times.

It can be hours of "fun" to get the hood aligned right. Be careful to not fully release both bolts at once. I suggest loosening one, moving the hood., and tightening it back.

Thanks Glenn !
When the weather gets any better over here in the netherlands I'll give it a shot.
Furtheron the forum I saw a whole topic about this problem. Hope I can fix it because it's annoying !

Paul

Lubricate the hood hinges and exercse them a bit before you adjust. Sticking/dirty/tired hinges will leave a rear corner of the hood a little high.

While aligning the hood, remove the latch assembly from the hood. That way you can check alignment without the latch interfering with the alignment. And the hood can't latch down every time you check what happened to the alignment.
After getting the alignment perfect, reinstall the latch. Make sure the alignment of the latch allows the pin to be in the center of the hole, so it dosen't affect the alignment.

Sneaky on the latch. I'll have to try that.

So it IS rare for a hinge to fail? Generally it's just a matter of lubrication?

I'm about to address a problem with my 89S4. The hood is hard to pull up unless to pull up on just the left front. That right hand hinge seems to push the hood directly up and THEN the hood feel loose and opens normally.
