Excellent work Stan.......what causes the plugs to deform? and then come loose from a bolted cap bridge?

Points to Greg on this one. Good call! I had expected a noisy cam chain tensioner or lifters would have accompanied that.

There are two different old style plugs, small and large diameter. Fairly early squirter block heads I have need modified full metal plugs.

Well I got the new block off pins and cam cover gaskets. RnRed the rear cam caps and round end caps.
Put it back together and with some 20W 50 Valvoline the pressure came right up to 5 bar on start , then after the fans came on the pressure is running at 3 bar so I think all is good.
Now there is a rattle in the drive line possibly TT bearings or the rear flex plate has loose rivets its not constant only comes and goes I told the owner to put some miles on the car and see if anything changes.
Anyway thanks for the assistance, Stan

If it is the rear flex plates, get the proper length from Wurth or use AN bolts, the ones I got from Porsche would not take full torque and snapped.

I do not know if they had a bad batch or what, this was done with a new Snap-On 1% torque wrench, so I know the bolts were not over torqued.

I hope it works out for the owner.

Thanks for the info on the flex plate bolts any ideas where to get some?? Greg...
Sean your pictures look similar to mine the car i had was showing 51K miles how about yours??
The oil plugs i removed also looked very similar.
What kind of oil pressures were you getting with the engine cold and hot at idle??

No noticeable difference, but had some extra chain noise from this side. Which was the reason for the tear down today. The car has 84k on it.

The pins are still in place on the drivers side, but am replacing them anyway.

Here's a pic of the new pins installed.
