I have searched everywhere for the seal kit for the 91 to 95 pump.
I recently bought a rebuilt 100psi Vickers from Mark at 928 International for a GTS customer and at a lot less money than the Porsche rebuild.
No reference in PET for the later kit either.
Maybe talk to Vickers.

Colin,

That's probably good advice, but I've already got it apart! I'll put it back together with the old seals if I have to, but I'd rather put in new seals.

I remember you mentioned you had a source up in BC that could match any hydraulic seal. Do they happen to have a branch down in Portland? If not do you have any advice in finding a reliable place to match up my old seals?

Thanks,
Tom

I looked through the PET as well, and found there are actually three PS pumps listed:

928.347.431.05 for '84 and earlier,
928.347.089.00 for '85 to '90, and
928.347.089.01 for '91 and later.

And I could only find repair kits listed for the first two pumps.

Apparently the earliest pump is made by ZF, and the latest is the 100 Bar Vickers pump. Not sure about the middle pump, but I assume its made by Vickers and is 75 Bar. This would mean the Rannbay rebuild kit only works on '84 and earlier.

I also found the Porsche rebuild kits on Pelican - one for '84 and earlier, and the other they claim is for "85 and up". So either the PET is wrong or Pelican is wrong abouot the later kit working on the 100 Bar pumps.

The Rennbay kit works on MY 89 cars - I used it on my 89's PS pump to rebuild. I checked the sticker and date castings on the pump too when I rebuilt it to make sure it was an '89 pump.

(After discovering the pump I got off a parted-out '86 was a GTS 100 bar pump, I made sure of my other pump's numbers).

I think the early type has a different belt offset as the mounting console for the PS pump and Alternator changed - not sure whether the pump internals differed too however?

Tom,

the odd shaped seals are going to be specific, but radial or shaft seals should be able to be spec'd with a hydraulics store.

The Rennbay kit worked perfectly on my '90, FWIW.

Hey Guys,

Tom told me to jump in here on the 928 board and take a look.

The kits we have right now only fit the ZF pumps. Both the early and this 100 bar pump look like they are made by Vickers. We have a kit for the early Vickers pump in the works but this is the first time I have seen the 100 bar unit. Maybe we can put something together for it as well in the future.

Travis--

I'm in for a 100 PSI Vickers pump kit when you have them. My 'spare' pump is that flavor, while the original uses the kit you offer now. PM if you need a guinea-pig for the HP example, and I''l get mine off to you for parts fit-up.

Thanks for your interest!

Just for reference, here's the inside of the ZF (with the bowtie seals) and the 100bar Vickers pumps.

Hey Bob,

I may have to take you up on that offer soon for testing. I think "think" I can get the build list specs for that series of Vickers so let me do some digging first.

The pics help Hilton. Thanks.

The vickers appears to just be o-rings from the picture.

other than the radial shaft seal of course.

Yes, just 4 o-rings and the shaft seal.

That's very interesting. I was going on the PET - The drawing of the '85-'90 unit looks very different from the '78-'84 unit, and identical to the '91-'95 unit. Also the repair kit for the '85 to '90 pump has a different number from the repair kit for the '78-'84 pump. So is the '85 to '90 pump made by ZF or Vickers?

That brings up another point: Pelican sells a factory rebuild kit they claim works on all PS pumps from '85 up (I e-mailed them asking them to verify this.) But this can't be true.

Dr. Bob

I am almost 100% sure I have the seals tied down for that 100psi Vickers. Send me over that extra pump and I will confirm fitment (and rebuild your pump).

PM sent..
