Default Battery electrolyte level check- How high?

I'm not driving the GT enough. The battery in it (new in 12/08) is not holding a charge very well. I am checking the electrolyte level in it and I have no idea what the appropriate level is. The picture is not very good, but it shows there's about an inch-deep well into each cell, and while the electrolyte level is above the top of the plates, and is touching the lower tip of each cell's cover, I'm not sure what level constitutes 'full' on a battery. So- what's 'full'?

Electrolyte level should be above the plates with maximum level at the base of the cylinder of the filling cap as you have shown.

Below the plates will cause damage to the plates and too full will cause overflow when the battery gets hot.

It should just touch the bottom of the inside plastic column, just as your photo shows.

It may take two days of charging to reach a full charge with a 5 amp, three stage charger. If you have a multimeter, you should monitor both the battery voltage and current during charging. Keep a log of time, voltage, and charging current. That will tell you something about both the battery capacity and charger. Make sure the charging voltage stays below 14.7 volts
