I just switched to Hagerty today! I put down 7K miles on application, they called to ask about the 7K. told them it is not a DD, trips to SITM, Frenzy, other fun runs add up. As long as you have another vehicle, don't drive it to/from work, they were OK with it. Saved $700/yr from my regular insurance company.

+1 on Hagerty being permissive. That's why I went with them, in addition to the fact that they will write an agreed-value policy based on a very accurate (IMHO) valuation of my particular shark's true market value. The insured car cannot be your DD, and I think there was even a restriction on how old your DD is - 8 years max, IIRC (but I may be getting confused with another insurer on that point).

In the application, they ask you how many miles/year you want on the policy, but when I read the actual policy document, there wasn't a word about mileage restrictions in it. I called them to ask what was up with that, and they said that they use the mileage cap to price the premium on the policy, not as a control on your driving. I have stayed below my mileage cap anyway, so it makes no difference to me.

That's what I paid last year, I just got my bill for this year and it went up to $428, not that I'm complaining. A lot of folks in my area had increases in auto insurance costs.

Forgot to add... I had a company car when trying to get coverage with Haggerty for my 928. So, I had a daily driver -just not owned by me nor insured with Haggerty. I assured them that my 928 absolutely could not be used for my job and was even told that I could not drive my 928 to my mechanic (10 miles max) and that I needed a trailer (and tow vehicle) to take my car to my mechanic -or pay a flatbed to pick it up... no dice.

And yes Greg, they do check mileage... it gets recorded every year when the vehicle is inspected.

Think they use the 'Honor System'? -there is no honor among thieves.

Barry,

You and I must have talked to the same person at Hagerty. They CLEARLY did not want my business (six street 928's at the time)! J. C. Taylor got mine...can't complain a bit about it either.

This isn't exactly true, my wife's daily driver is a 1994 and I have Hagerty. They didn't care. Also, the requirement was just that you have a daily driver, I didn't read anything about not driving the car to work. Also, my plan doesn't have an annual mileage cap, and my wife and my dailys aren't insured with Hagerty.

Again YMMV (Your mileage may vary) - my agreed upon value is only 8k or 10k I think, so maybe there are more restrictions as your agreed upon value goes up. I may have to bump mine up once all the work's done.

Oh, FWIW, my premium is sub-300 annually, and I think less than $250. On a 300+ hp Porsche! Can't beat that!

The only thing they did do was the initial quote (also less than $300) was based on 100/300, but they had to lower it to match the coverage on my daily, which lowered my rate even more, so can't complain.

I think I need to give them a call, just to screw with them.
I am my own mechanic, it lives at my shop, any time I drive it that will be technically to or from work.

BTW, I would never insure a car with them, far to many horror stories from people that had been assured they were covered and after a accident found out that they were not, for one reason or the other.

Do not listen to what they say, only listen to what the policy says.

Word to the wise, get a lawyer to look over the policy.

Hagerty's rules change by state for sure. There are many pages of additional policy changes for my state. The policy does require a "regular use" car, a locked garage and the Hagerty insured car is to be used for:
"1 - car club activities, exhibitions, parades, other functions of public interest or for a public collection; and
2- Is used infrequently for other purposes"

Nothing said about driving to work or your mechanic. I imagine these would be the infrequent uses.

I say whenever the 928 is on the road it's "public interest"

I don't know where the idea of telling Hagerty your milage every year comes from, it's not true here. I've had Hagerty for 2 years, there is no yearly inspection by Hagerty or the state for that matter. Having collectors insurance in Arizona relieves you of any emissions inspections. 5K/year of pleasure driving, $552/year / $26,000 agreed value. Free flatbed towing for 10 miles or less, which I have used once.

Before I switch from AAA I would want to hear some very positive experiences from people actually getting money OUT of the insurance company, and how issues like tagging my car with a salvage title if I want it fixed would be handled.

I've had Leyland-West for nearly 10 years and have been very satisfied. They have similar rules as the others but don't allow any driving to work. A few years ago they paid over $1400 (I paid $75) for the installation of a new sigla windsheild, and did not question it at all. I pay less than $300/yr.

Ah, that's probably the most important thing to consider in this thread - insurance rules are different in every state, so the available coverage types, rules, and costs will vary by state - for every insurer. This is true for all types of insurance - medical, property, and auto.

My wife is an underwriter for a medical insurance company - I should have thought to post this!

This is the vibe what I got from them. As someone said it had something to do with my zip code. I've never had a claim with any auto insurance, no points, etc. YMMV, ask questions now, or you might be in for surprize(s) later.
