Default Plugged Up?

The drain plug pictured below is from a '90 GT g.box/diff. Oil is slighly dirty and sures stinks.

Is the metallic residue on the magnet typical?

Perfectly normal, esp for a car that probably still has the origonal fluid!

It is wear from the syncros.

Use redline 75W90NS or heavy shockproof gear oil to fill the tranny with.

Malcolm,

Go to canadian tire and they have a orange/red hand pump, it is what I use to get the fluid into the tranny. Autos too.

It does help to heat up the oil some first though!

At 'hi' pwr?

I got away with baking brake rotors in the oven earlier this will be a total different matter. May have to wait for the next hair/massage appt.

Can you imagine the mess if the plastic bottle explodes?

Leave the lid off, and the seal broken.

But I personally well never "nuke" oil, it changes too much.

Pot of near boiling water works very well.

I used to boil m/cycle chains in oil long before O-ring chains became the norm.

The smell remains with me to this day after +30yrs..............I'll go buy the pump.

I was thinking about ways to heat the diff fluid since I plan on the job in a couple weeks. The double boiler method came to mind. I'm a little afraid of trying the microwave.

I was going to try the "Set in the Florida sun on a piece of Aluminum Foil for an hour " Method. Do you think it will suffice? Or not hot enough?

I'll be using Brad Penn 75w90 Hypoid and I have a quart hand pump.
