How would a guy 6-2 and 225 lbs fit in a Boxster or Cayman? Do these cars have anything like the low-end torque of a 928, or is all the action start at 3,000 rpm?

Agreed and that's what we got.

<==== It's right there!
2007 cayman (not S) 5 sp as my wife's daily driver. It has 35k miles and 3 years left on the warranty.

She drove both Boxster and Cayman and said with the top up on the Boxster, she felt it was claustrophobic and not enough room. She loves the Cayman. Like someone said earlier, handles like a full size go-cart!

My 2000 base Boxster has been a pretty bullet proof DD for 7 years. Other than scheduled maintenance I've replaced the coolant reservoir, the front engine mount, the washer bottle, and the oil separator. 106000 and going strong. The only bad thing is the 3000 RPM resonance which is a bitch to kill. I finally killed mine by preloading the rear muffler bracket. Don't ask me why.

Uhhhmmmmm... maybe I'm speaking out of turn... or out of sheer ignorance, but since were talking mid-engine Porsches why not go back to the original - a fully restored & sorted 914 2.0 ltr would be a great little car... very sporty & tons of fun to drive... manual 5 speed is the only way the came and with as much if not more storage than the boxter... at 1/4 to 1/2 the price!

I like the the 914-6 but the rest are Volkswagens. There is no way a 914 has nearly the cargo space of a Boxster though.

If that is true... then just for the sake of argument, ALL Porsches were... and are funny enough... yet again... Volkswagens... including the venerable 356 and every model since. O.K. Standing by to be flamed... putting on my flame retardant coveralls and everything

Still, the 914 2.0 ltr would fit the O.P's list of requirements very nicely.

Not all Joel - the shark is a clean sheet design...no VW in there.

I only flame in retaliation.
All you need is Google to see what I mean about the 914.
I still love them though.
It's just hard to find a space for one in the stable that isn't filled by a car that fills two other spaces(if you know what I mean).

Ed, Yeah I knew that... dont know WHAT I was thinking...

Gator, I know the 914 was a joint effort with VW and it was absolutely an entry-level model made for the masses. But the fun factor driving one on a twisty KY road with the targa top off is unbeatable - especially for the price. Like driving an overgrown go cart on rails! Just sounded like a good fit for the guy's wife if he can find a restored / well sorted 2.0 ltr car.

No room in the garage... for anything... yeah I'm there
