I am trying to decide which car I should use for my first DE... the 928 I've had for a while, or the 964 I just got. Could you guys join me on this thread and let me know what you think?

I would install one with race seats and harness no matter which car you choose.

Why does it have to be either/or...why not both/and?
I have out run many 964's in my S4...been out run by a few...but VERY FEW! RSA's are REALLY fast though!

Is there a significant increase in safety if I install a roll bar in one of the coupes? I am under the impression that DE is quite safe, and there are very few roll overs, etc. Is this not the case?
Great point - I guess eventually I would like to try each of them on the track. I guess I am trying to find out which would be a better choice for my first DE, given the pros/cons I listed in the other thread. At this point, I am pretty confident that I could be faster in the 928, but not sure that is the best decision maker???

It was not clear this was to be your first DE...pros and cons both ways... The 928 will be less likely to bite you, but if you can master the 911 the 928 will be a cake walk! Faster too probably!

928 will make for an easier more enjoyable weekend for the first time out.
There is much to learn the first weekend or two at DE. With a new car where inputs are not yet second nature, the car may distract from progress.

Just my opinion but I like having the harness / seat / rollbar in my 79. If nothing else, being secure in a proper seat makes the drive that much better.
It's also a package deal, with most clubs you cannot have a harness without a proper seat, and you need something to attach the harness to which is where the rollbar comes in. Also, most are also adapting the rule of no harness / race seat without a rollbar (versus using just a harness bar which is available for the 944 and 964).

^ IMHO
you need at least a dozen track days before the harness becomes remotely necessary.
With 3-point belts, I learned to drive with just one hand to free up my other to hang on for dear life.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Agreed, DEs are generally very, very safe. Particularly with organizations that take safety seriously.

I think you would have more fun in the 964, particularly if you're a beginner, and it is a stick.
The 928 autos are fun in the track, but IMO, you'll miss having the gears for downshift and balancing the car out. Get a few under your belt, and then take the 928 out.
