Is it Worth It?
So lately many have been posting about the cost of ownership and the empty bank accounts.
I thought I would start a little poll, maybe not the most popular but someone has to do it.
So the question is, is all the cost worth it?
I wanted to make this poll public so the 944 guys can't skew it but I also wan't honest replies so I'll keep it private.

I don't know what you are expecting, polling a bunch of crazed enthusiast as to whether the object of their addiction is worth it or not. That's like asking a crack head if they like crack.

I think the goal is for outsiders and new comers to see how existing owners really feel.
I get the feeling many of us complain about ownership cost and when others read it they think, why bother and or is it really worth it?
Maybe I should add another option to include, "Not worth it which is why I got out."

LOL, yeah I know how you feel. This is a tech support forum and people should understand that. I just bought an old Range Rover. It has a similar reputation as 928s. But after reading several support forums it just doesn't seem as bad as it's reputation. Most of the problems owners are having seem self inflicted, example; I did a tune up and now it won't start, oops, messed up the firing order doing the plug wires.
The cool thing about having an enthusiast automobile is both the group and aftermarket support because it is an enthusiast car.

Most posts I read are about figuring our cars out and levels of frustration about repairs and restorations.
I do not recall a lot of discussion about costs and prices.
We all know that the next repair or upgrade can be very pricey and we all know that there are virtually no price shortcuts on most items.
This group really understands that you get what you pay for, and that dealing with suppliers that 'Get It' is worth having to do the job only once.
Also, the vast array of advice and knowledge on RL steers most folks in the right direction and that is priceless.
The end result, most times, is having to sell your 928 when in a financial bind, most likely to another RL type and knowing that later on , the group will help acqiure the next project and assist in the restoration.
There is always tomorrow...in the black hole that is the 928 Universe

There isn't a poll answer for me.
Purchase price on mine was just north of a Honda Civic, south of a Taurus or Accord. My 4k/yr driving habit would be net the same with any of those cars purchased new at the time. My thinking was "Which car would I rather drive?"
For reference, I bought my mother a Taurus new in 1988. It has about 45K on it now, and has a market value of $1000 today, mostly because Cali will give me $1000 to take it off the road. Paint is sad, mostly due to aggressive detailing/polishing at her local car wash. Headliner is drooping, AC leaks and isn't that great on its best days. Miles on her car cost more than the miles on mine, counting depreciation.

Compared to what?
Is this entire hobby "worth it"? To 99.9999% of the population that answer is no.
For those of us who never see our lives without some kind of "hobby car", it doesn't really matter what you chose, it's not going to be much of a positive investment.
Why are cars always singled out based on cost of ownership? Ask any boat owner if they expect to recoup even 25% of their investment (even if they bought used).
Snowmobiles, ATV's, RV's, airplanes, motorcycles etc... are all "excepted loses". Yet cars we scrutinize over every little penny and worry about passing that illusive "cost of purchase...."
I don't get it.

If our cars were easy or cheap to keep in reliable running condition most of us could not afford to buy them. 928's are cheap to buy because they are both pesky and expensive to fix.
