Default engine part ID needed

Photo taken from drivers side (US) at just under the air filter box of the passenger side rear of engine. What is the unit with the two tubes protruding downward? (It is in the center of the photo.)

Thanks,

Allen

OOops. Phot should have been rotated 90 degrees clockwise before posting. Bend your head to the left to view properly.

What is it's function? Where does it connect to/from?
It has been open like this since engine replacement. Must have been overlooked...

Allen , upon further review on the field, the call has been overturned on the part #. yours appears to be vacum, not electrical, wich according to PET started in MY85. WSM page 25-208 shows one line connecting to a air bleed valve then to a diaphram, then looks like it tee's into the vac line that runs to the front fuel regulator. The other side runs to the base of the throttle, but can't tell you what side or port. I'm a bit computer hadicaped so maybe someone will down load a pic for you.

I believe that's the cold start sensor. It should have vacuum lines connected to it.

That is a thermovacuum switch. It is designed to not allow vacuum to reach the divertor valve for the air injection until the engine reaches a certain temperature.

So this part may be responsible for engine idling speed when the engine is first started? My car seems to rev a bit on the high side until well after she warms up.

Upon further examination, they are definitely tubes that seem to cry out for vacuum line sized tubing. I think that I need a bit more guidance on this one.

Ahhh........ If this is all that this part is responsible for, then this only allows actuation of the air injection system once a certain operating temperature has been achieved. Since my air pump was eliminated during the timing belt replacement incorporating the Porkensioner system (short belt now runs the stock, belt driven fan directly from the crankshaft), this part is now unnecessary- or are there other parts to the system to talk about now that the air pump is removed For instance the catalytic converter- will this be detrimentally affected?
Someone please assuage my paranoia with the rudimentary knowledge I so lack!
