Your front shifter ball/cup is broken and come loose. BTDT, drive it home in 2nd, order the parts and change it out. When the new one is installed, most guys put a large tie-wrap over the shifter rod and the torque tube to prevent it from falling off again as the new one wears.

You can also try re-installing it on the existing ball and do the tie-wrap trick now. Sometimes it will hold together for a long time, allowing you to defer the repair to a more convient time.

And don't tell the 911 guys that you drive a 928 and get haircuts at walmart. It would only feed their superiority complex.

It's a small troublesome part which commonly causes errors in Capri shifter linkages called a "porsche emulating bilateral cluster aductor key"

I know, this one went right down the tubes. Surprise ending, though, that was worth something.

Oh, and I want to go to New Zealand. I mean Tasmania.

Actually PEBCAK stands for Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard.

This is a 928 forum. We have no idea about your car.
I recommend you contact a Capri forum board from this point forward.

You could post this in the OT forum, but this part is strictly for 928 discussions.
