Rear tow hook bumper plug/cover?

Rear tow hook bumper plug/cover?
Has it ever bugged anyone else that there is no cover on pre GT cars? It is the kind of thing that bugs me. There may be a solution but we will need to see what the desire is based upon numbers. I went thru the random pic thread and it seems as though there are few cars pre-GTS' that have one from the looks of it.
Post up and lets see what we can come up with.

I stand corrected, there is Andrew's 91.
I am sure that there a few others out there but most of the pics that I have viewed it is missing. I am guessing that because of the curve at the top of the license plate indentation it probubly doesn't stay in there well. I can't imagine that it was actually used to tow/secure the car in the case for most people.

Actually, the cover came standard on all 928's from 1991 on. The part number is 928 505 657 00. Not sure if it's available or not. Maybe Roger knows?
As for staying put, it actually does a pretty good job. It doesn't swivel out of the way for the tow hook. You have to remove the screw that holds it in place. On the cover itself there is a tab that hooks on to the bumper cover so it will not drop down.

I had researched this a couple of years ago. The covers can be purchased for the GTS but you would have to drill into the bumper to hold it in place. You'll probably also need to paint it to match unless you decide to keep it in the color it comes in.

Mine has Roger's pacifier in it - both front and back. Don't want to be screwing around with a seized plug when I'm laying under the car on the side of a road during a torrential downpour without the ability to quickly get a tow hook inserted.

I just took the license plate off and flipped the bracket top-to-bottom, that raises the license plate about an inch and hides the hole.
When we needed to use it, I just flipped it back the way it started while waiting for the flatbed...

As my 90GT did not come equipped with one, I ordered it and painted to match. As Andrew said, it has a tab on one end and a screw fastener on the other. Not wanting to drill a hole for the screw, I simply used double-sided tape to secure it in place. Been on there for over a year now with no issues. I did a full write-up on TOS:
