This is the place to be. You can discuss issues before buying parts, by the parts at a discount, and maybe even convince locals to advise on the install, or even help. We are pretty much all comparing notes to keep them running.

Yea i would kinda figure that the motor mounts would be shot. Engine has just over 105k on the clock.

I have solid motor mounts on the GTO. I have experienced Vibrations with the solid mounts. not gonna get passed that on a cammed car. Any vibration issues with the Solid mounts for the 928?

Also i read you have to drop the crossmember to take the original mounts out.

Yep they definitely had to put flaps that open at certain speeds and temperatures LOL. (i think that's the coolest part)

Got some work to be done to it. Interior is just gorgeous though.

It sounds like you are being sucked-in... or should I say "snapped-up" by the shark. Have you considered attending Sharks in the Mountains (SITM) with it?

You might want to take a close look at all the rubber hoses for fuel and coolant, as well as the ones at the transmission. Don't miss the short rubber hose that goes from engine to heater valve - a common faliure (as is the heater valve itself).

Collapsed motor mounts would be the equivalent of solid mounts, they do not really offer any dampening and the result is vibration into the cockpit.

New motor mounts will transform the car, no vibration in the pedal, steering or the seat. It's hard to explain how profound the difference is.

Nicole your car looks great, it sounds like it just needs some basic maintenance to make it perfect.

In the 10 years I've had a K&N filter, I have not had a K&N related MAF sensor issue. The MAF's output has been verified as being within spec.
Hi Paul: Good to hear it works for you!

But honestly, how many people have the patience to do it your way?

I actually just replaced the rubber hose that goes to the heater valve because it burst last summer.

We wont be able to attend sharks in the mountain until the radiator is fixed and the cv axle is either replaced or repaired. don't want to be stranded lol.

But i will tell you, i love the feeling of solid motor mounts lol.

Does anyone know if any dyno place can dyno tune the 928 or does it have to have special software installed?

I would suggest that you bring all the mechanics and electrics in order before you start with modifications. Otherwise you don't have a good base line, and don't really know where to start troubleshoot in case things don't turn out as you expect.

Safety first
Reliability next
Performance last

If the radiator is leaking by the seams between the center part and the side tanks, new end tanks and seal kits can be ordered to repair the radiator.

I love the stance of the 928! How many years later and it still looks so mean and ready for business!

I think its on the original suspension too LOL.

Oh trust me i am going to fix all this. I was just wondering if it required special software.

The solid mounts I'm referring to are solid rubber, not solid metal/metal (that can be done, but doesn't seem logical for a street car)>

They come originally with water-filled. They leak and collapse.

It is also possible to buy new water-filled mounts at a deep discount, but few do, most opt for the solid rubber ones. The porsche original water-filled ones are also available, but instead of $70/ pair you are looking at hundreds.

Right now, the oil pan is probably resting on the crossmember.

Go to www.928sRus.com and call Roger. He has them available. I don't know, if anybody else offers them.

In another 20 years I wonder how many people wil have their heads turned by the GTO...? or how collectible it wll be.

It may have relatively cheap performance thrills but I think its missing the timeless quality the 928 has
(maybe there will be some last of breed cache...?) - it really doesn't appeal to me one bit.

I'd take the 928 any day.

Alan
