Yeah, I'm kind of bummed... every time I see those rough edges I wish I had waited for the final units...

Still going strong...

Excellent write-up ^^^ Dave A, on your website, for TT strip / prep / rebuild !!!

Does anybody have updates on the Black Sea / Constantine TT Bearings?

Is there a choice to be made, steel versus aluminum carriers?

Do I need 3?

The car is a USA 84 5 speed. It will see street and light track use. TT is out and will be stripped /cleaned tomorrow.

I have done 3 or 4 of them so far, they really are great.

I would go with 3 steel units on a street car.

Agree with what Greg said. For a 928 that's mainly a street car, I'd go with the steel carriers. They're cheaper for one and I think they are slightly stronger/heavier duty (Constantine, please correct me here if I'm wrong). I initially waivered a bit because I read somewhere that the aluminum carriers might be better in a GT, but after talking to Constantine, went with the steel carriers and couldn't be happier.

Good questions and really appreciate the great comments about the Super Bearings (SBs)!

Porsche usually used three bearing units in all, auto and 5 speed, 25mm drive shaft TTs.

Sometime in 1987 when Porsche went to the 28mm drive shafts for the auto models, they went to two bearing units in them.

The 5 speed TTs still used three bearing units through the GTS since the drive shafts stayed at 25mm.

We will always recommend three SBs for every TT, no matter drive shaft size, since the drive shaft is better supported.

We changed the weight of the steel SBs so that three now make up the weight of the Porsche vibration dampener so that problem prone piece doesn't have to be re-used.

We no longer carry aluminum SBs as regular stock, they are a special order item. People have used them in their TTs and felt no vibrations.

We designed the SBs with increased rubber both on the outside carrier and inside the bearing insert to control and dampen vibrations much better than the Porsche ones. So we were able to dial out the vibrations common in the TT which necessitated the use of the vibration dampener Porsche used to control the vibrations. So even the lightweight aluminum SBs do the job very well.

The strength of the aluminum SBs is not a factor since they only hold the bearings in the TT and really no forces are being put upon them. We stopped carrying them in stock since most owners felt better using steel SBs.

Currently we are sold out (again!) and are waiting for a new shipment within a few weeks.

Hope the above helped to answer some questions.

Cheers,
