Default Powder coating and RDK

Are the RDK sensors affected when my flat discs are powder coated ?
Can they resist the heat of the proces ?

Last year my Jeep Wrangler rubicon rims were powdercoated in black. I saw the proces itself and I believe the rims are heated to great extent. Also a power-current is involved in the proces.

Thanks,
Paul

The RDK units are acutually pressure switches and I know they can be effected by too much pressure, however, I don't know about temperature from anything I have read. The RDK system is temperature compensated as the tyre pressure increases with temperature.

Too much increase may have a depremental effect on the pressure switched installed in the rims, especially if they become deformed.

I would suggest that you pose your question to a technical manager at and official Porsche Centre.

You need to remove sensors from wheels and very likely need new seals when puting them back in. There is factory special tool set which is used to install them. Tools can be ordered from Porsche with their own part numbers. There is also black plastic air quide on top of sensors which obviously need to be removed.

Also its important that air pressure put into tires do not exceed 3.5 bar. Usually when tire shops mount tires they "pop" them on with higher pressure. This can damage sensors.

I got my Club Sports powdercoated and went through the same process.

I got the sensors out by firstly removing the black plastic cover, then unscrewing the sensors with a pair of locking ring pliers on inside (tyre side), and polygrip on the outside. The pliers need to be inserted in the detents of the sensors.

Just get a good, firm grip on the outside, and do not let the poygrip slip. Then You will get the sensors out without damage.

They sensors are not torques much.

Remember to replace the O-rings. You may also want to replace the covers, as they tend to get brittle and crack up after 20 years in service

Sensors must be removed first. The manual says to use petroleum jelly on the NEW seals when you put them back on. It also says to use new "nuts" to hold the sensor in place...don't use the old ones again. IIRC 15 lb-ft of Tq is all that is required when you put them back on... I bought and used the tools to R&R mine 10 years ago...

There was a set of the RDK tools (9273 and 9274) on the German version of Ebay about 3 weeks ago for a ridiculously low price. They don't look like they're there now but it might be worth checking completed auctions and getting in touch with the seller (?)

There was another auction also few weeks ago in German eBay. In it price went up to 150 euros.

Factory part numbers for tools are:
000 721 927 30
000 721 927 40
They follow normal special tool numbering where 000 721 xxx x0 is order number. If special tool has number like 9280/1 or whatever order number is 000 721 928 01 meaning also .../1 is included into order number. Maybe vendors can say if they are still available from Porsche. They can't be found with normal parts search from usual places like Mittelmotor.de and 928gt.com. Maybe they are no longer available from factory. Its not too difficult to build tools for the job.

This place purports to have them, though I have not reality tested it by trying to buy anything.... :

http://www.worldimpex.com/search_by_...27+30&x=25&y=5

And FWIW they appear to be able to get a large number of the Porsche factory tools. I was bored at a 3 hour gymnastics meet a few weeks ago and made a list of all the 928-specific Porsche tools out of a factory catalog on the Morehouse CD's. Here's the list by part # and description. I attached the whole Excel file too with prices from this Impex site. (Many prices have changed in the interim- I bet their system just queries the Porsche prices and has no bearing on what's really available....).
