Default Timing mark sender

The timing mark sender listed in PET as 911 606 108 00 up to the '88 MY.

What changes were made to the electronics that allowed this 'sensor' to be deleted in the newer cars?

Malcolm-

I didn't bother to look up your part, but I don't think it was removed, but rather superceded. you Are talking about the crank position sensor, right?

Not quite Andrew.............the crank position sensor and the timing mark are listed for the earlier cars together:

The '88 - up cars use the Hammer, so the separate timing light trigger isn't necessary.

Ah... I see. Isn't this the one that snakes up beside the air filter? If so, isn't it just for diagnostics? Sounds like it from what Wally says.

Yes - that sensor is just to trigger the Porsche workshop timing light, etc.
