Smog Pump Noise
Broke the 928 out early this year and have been struggling with an annoyance under the hood. I doesn't seem to affect the performance of the car, but is quite embarrassing while sitting in traffic.
I changed the smog pump last summer after the bearing froze up and cooked the belt. I bought a refurbished smog pump from 928 Int'l and changed it out with no problems. But since the install I have noticed a squeaking from under the hood. I couldn't pin point with the engine running until i bought a stethoscope and poked around on the pulleys , timing covers, and heads. After 10 minutes of poking around I pin-pointed it on the smog pump.
The belt has the proper deflection (so i know there is no undue stress on the bearing) and it was a refurb with less than a year on my 928.
My question is what are the chances that the wipers are still fresh with tight tolerances in the pump? Is there supposed to be light oil in the pump to keep the wipers running smooth and squeek free? Or did i get a refurb with a bad bearing?
Thanks In Advance...
