Default ElectroLuminescent Door Sill Lighting

Okay I was reading some of the old posts and there were a few of you who did this. That's where I got the idea to do LED center console lighting.

Anyway. How are the EL strips holding up now. Better ideas on lighting the 928. Our ML 63 AMG at work has blue EL lighting on the Mercedes Benz letter and I just HAVE to do that to my 928 in either blue or red (red would carry over to the theme of the interior lighting on the dash and such).

So . . . .still working? Any better vendors or solutions out there anyone has found? I may not be the most original guy but I sure can copy and idea I like pretty darn well.

Mine are still working. The usual problem with these is failure of the transformers. I had one go bad after a year or so. Replaced it and that one has worked fine for a couple of years now. The tape itself seems indestructible as long as any cut edges are sealed from moisture. Have you got a current source for EL tape that is wide enough? The source I used years ago is not around anymore.

Nope. I was hoping someone would chime in and say "I have found a great vendor and xxxx is who you should use."

I had them installed and linked into the interior lights, the invertor was tucked down beside the seat. One day I could smell something hot and found the invertor was extremely hot. Not sure if I'd been given a 6v invertor instead of a 12v one, After that I disconnected them. I may revisit it one day and setup a test rig with one I can leave on and monitor the temperature. It looked quite nice when it was working.

Installed my EL-strips in 2004 and had a problem with the first strips due to moisture from washing my car. I had no idea that they were sensitive against moisture! Bought a second set of strips (used the same converters) but this time I ran them through our laminator that we use to laminate paper. After this, no more problems until today, they still look great after 16 years!

Yes, classic grey interior, all leather (except the pod). Outside is amazon green.
