I actually like threads like this. I've never owned a Corvette (have had 5 928s), but every once in a while I've seen a Corvette I'd like to have. It's interesting to me to read people's opinions about other cars, whether I agree with them or not.
Whatever car you have, I say enjoy it, and defend the reasons you picked it. We all have egos and opinions, but the truth is (in my opinion), as long as you have a passion for what you drive, I can relate to you.

Why? Your arguments are not realistic. Almost no real enthusiast of either 928 OR Vette is buying new so lets compare real world and not hearsay and unfounded opinion. Just look at all the older model Vette pictures posted on the other thread.
In 2000 I owned and drove and 1990 928 GT. It cost me $23,300 as a used car with 80K. It was well maintain with typical enthusiast suspension and exhaust upgrades. I spent some money on the car doing maintenance items but nothing big OR expensive, and clutch was fine. The big ticket item for me was upgrading the stereo system which really has nothing to do the the car as much as just personal taste.
While I owned and drove this car I was constantly teased by a friend at work that had a mid-90's Vette. I don't know what the exact year was, I think it was a later C4, but I do know it cost about the SAME as I had purchased the 928 for. He was always talking smack and how much faster his vette was. He also talked about all the slick machine work he had done to make more power and the car faster (read as invested more in upgrades than I spent in repairs, including my cool sounding stereo).
Well, he invited me and my 928 to come out to a Corvette Club Autocross. My 928 got a lot of interest after I opened the hood and they saw a V8. When the racing started I beat all but the 3 stripped down trailer queen track Vetts on race rubber. Then the only comment he could make was that since his car was a Chevy he could get parts same day at any dealer. I commented that I get parts next day at the longest (and still do, so don't consider the car abandoned by Porsche). Not long after that comment a very interesting thing happened. His accelerator pedal broke in the middle of a lap. Keen to prove his point he caught a ride to the Chevy Dealer 4 miles from the track to get a new gas pedal. A little later I saw he had returned and asked if he was going to beat my times. He looked down and said, "They had to order the pedal and it was going to be TWO WEEKS" !!!!
Same price, both owners enthusiast, similar maintenance/upgrade expenses, 928 faster, 928 didn't break when trying to show off, 928 better parts availability. This was my EXPERIENCE, Your Mileage May Vary.

Vettes are nice, it's just about what you want. I wanted a 928.
But I'll guarantee that if you park it side-by-side with a '93 Vette, my '93 928 will draw larger crowd.

My very first post went "Do you have to be wealthy to own a 928?" .
I had several replies of people basically pouring their guts out over the crazy amounts of money it has taken to maintain the cars. "Its still worth it because I'm passionate about 928s...It's only money. You only live once" type comments.
Now I have all of these guys coming out of the woodwork to prove to me how little they have spent on maintaining and fixing their 928s.
I really liked the Guy in Sweden. It sounds like his 928s only need oil changes. Perhaps the Sun does not get hot enough there to start cracking his dash-Pods. Not a single electrical problem and everything as been Honda-like so far. Thats it! I'll move to Sweden and buy one of his 928s.
Goffarama (like that Metallic Brown) and RKD know how to carry a conversation - amoung some of the nicer Gents here. And Some of you -- well....I guess the mild-mannered Doctors and Attorneys have sold these cars by now (probably because they found it ironic that they were getting charged for Porsche service at the same rate that they were billing their own customers)
I would much rather see a 928 rolling down the road than a Corvette (I happened to see a 928 GTS on Preston Rd. about an hour ago here in Dallas). I'm just a car guy like you. I enjoy car shows and talking shop. That's all we are doing here. You can mock me and Corvettes all you like. I really like reading the educated responses though. Debate is Ok and we can agree to disagree on things. I got nothing against any of ya's.
I think that I'm mad at Porsche for reasons stated earlier. They teased people like me with these 928s.

Robmaxfli,
Now that I know you are in DFW, get your *** to our gatherings. If you want to know the 928, and the people that go with them, you couldn't be in a better place. If you had shown your location sooner, you could have came over today and seen the cream of the crop here........Hell, I have an example of all with in 5 miles of MY house. I'm in Denton, and the GTS you just saw was Chuck S. On Preston in Plano, we have several great examples.
Give me your e-mail addy.................and show up to some of our deals.
My car has a cracked dash, cracked pod but it has run through Corvettes of the same era like Honda's. It also has 200k plus miles with the engine never cracked open.
