I think the popping is being caused by the grease and the boot. As the geometry of the suspension changes during a turn, it looks like I can see where it would pop. It's not loose at all, but it would allow air (and other stuff) in there, hence the popping.

I'm one of Carl's biggest fans and the kit and write-up he put together for this is really a great development. The top part of the kit with the zirc fitting is a design that's better than new, but the boot doesn't live up to the rest of the design/effort imo.

For anyone searching this in the future, it looks like the way to do this is to spring for a set of the boots from 928intl when you buy this kit, and just plan on throwing out the boots that came with the 928MS kit. Maybe in the future 928MS can include a set of the stock boots in the kit or at least eliminate the ones that don't really work and just tell people they'll need to buy the boots separately.

This will give you all the benefits of the rebuilt ball joint with zirc fitting and the sealing of the stock boot design.

Mike, you nailed it. Only complaint with the kit is the boot, really a very easy job. Just ordered two boots which are about $66 shipped.

On trick I did, was to wedge a wrench in to hold the A-arm as level as possible before you apply epoxy to seal the upper ball joint up. If you dont it will want to run to the front and the back side will not seal up.

Headed back out to finish up rear axles that I started yesterday. May submit this job to Mike Rowe!
